I'm flying home from California today! My brother got married out in Monterey last night, so we all went out to see him (and I was in the wedding)! California is BEAUTIFUL! And COLD on the coast! I had to buy a jacket, since it's a million degrees back home, and we all thought CA would be hot like GA. whoops...
I have been working at Bath and Body Works for the big sale, ends on the 3rd if anyone is interested! I usually work there during Christmas and summer, but I have a feeling next summer will be recovery and relaxation time for me :)
I'm also reading "Readicide" (Thanks Heather!) and for those of us who worked with Connie, we know she loved Harry Wong, but I see why! I started "The First Days of School" and it is wonderful! I recommend both. I'm also reading Catching Fire (Second book in Hunger Games) to brush up on my YA books.
I am working at a Packaging Factory in Lithonia. I work in the Publications Department and put together the machinery's instructional and opertions manuals. I have also been able to try tech writing.
I will be teaching 7th & 8th grade, and they have summer reading, so I have been working my way down their lists. They have to choose 1 of 8 books and I am doing my best to read all 8 from both lists (so 16 in all, but they're easy). Enjoying it so far (I have read 5, currently on The Giver by Lois Lowry). Also, reading some books Dr. Alby recommended in her handout at the GCTE conference (currently: Drive by Daniel Pink). Enjoying the summer and my family as well!
I'm working at GCSU Kids' University here in Milledgeville with 11-14 year olds. It's been fun but I miss teaching English and having a structured school day. I've also been working on Rockdale County's 10th grade summer reading list, 6 books in all! I've discovered some new favorites from it that I probably never would have picked up on my own, including Watership Down and Memoirs of a Geisha.
Lindsey D., I'm obsessed with the Hunger Games series. I just finished Mockingjay! I had a dream the other night I was Katniss, it was pretty crazy. It's an amazing series if any of y'all have the time to pick them up.

I'm working at Camp Maranatha in the tiny town of Ila, Georgia!
ReplyDeleteI'm also in the process of moving to Tennessee on the weekends which is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be!
Pretty soon, I'll be meeting my new yearbook staff and getting ready for the upcoming school year with them! So excited!
It's also been great to be able to read so many things I've been putting off. I HIGHLY recommend anything by Rick Bragg. The man is a genius!
